Guillermo and Karen discuss the economics of the city of Detroit, what led to its bankruptcy, and what it says about the broader economic problems of the United States as a whole. Karen explains how the ineptness of government and the deterioration of bureaucratic regulation in Detroit have spawned an “anarchistic culture” within the city, and allowed for new businesses, entrepreneurs and “startups” to flourish outside the control of the state.
